WITH SHINDIG CANCELED THIS YEAR, BILLY REID RELEASES SPECIAL PLAYLIST

by Stephen Garner

Billy Reid typically hosts his annual “Shindig” music, food, fashion, and art festival in Florence, Alabama around this time. It was actually slated for this weekend, but due to COVID-19, Shindig has been canceled. So, since a physical event isn’t possible this year, Billy Reid has released the ‘Best of Shindig’ playlist on Spotify to showcase artists who have performed at past Shindigs.

Since 2009, some of the top bands and musicians have played at Shindig including Alabama Shakes, The Raconteurs, Kacey Musgraves, The Civil Wars, and Karen Elson.

Shoals Theater – where a number of the larger performances are played during Shindig.

“During these very uncertain times we are deeply disappointed that we cannot move forward with our annual Shindig,” said Reid. “We are hopeful that we can resume what has become one of our favorite summer experiences and look forward to brighter days for all.   In the meantime, we thought we would put together a little music history from Shindig’s past. Over the past 12 years of our Shindig, we have hosted a wildly eclectic roster of musicians, songwriters, and artists.  Several well-known, many obscure, some Muscle Shoals homegrown, and an impressive list of Grammy Winners that all have shared their wonderful talents and helped build Shindig into the cultural experience it has become.  We hope you enjoy our playlist that captures several of the sounds, people, and performances from the 12-year history of Shindig.”
