NEW YORK – Cast members from “The Wire,” HBO’s Peabody Award-winning drama series, will be featured in the upcoming Fall advertising campaign by Akademiks.
As the show enters its fourth season, Michael K. Williams (Omar), JD Williams (Bodie), Jamie Hector (Marlo Stanfield) and Gbenga Akinnagbe (Chris) will make their print advertising debut in ads slated to run in Vibe, XXL, Complex, Slam and King magazines.
Additionally, HBO will collaborate with Akademiks in a series of cross-promotions, including limited-edition apparel, and radio and retail promotions.
“The Wire” won the 2004 Peabody Award for best television drama. The San Francisco Chronicle called it “the best show on TV,” and, in naming it the best series of 2004, Entertainment Weekly described it as “the smartest, deepest and most resonant drama on TV.” New York Newsday went even farther, calling it “the greatest dramatic series ever produced for television.”
The show explores the different facets of life on the streets and harbor of Baltimore and the various cultural, social and political factors that influence them in a no-holds-barred manner.
