AT PITTI UOMO: THE MAGIC REMAINS…

by Karen Alberg Grossman

There might have been a few fewer exhibitors, and even a brief rainstorm for the opening night party but nothing dampened the spirits of visitors to this always magical menswear show.

According to our roving photographer/designer Ruth Graves, “I loved the western flavor in accessories, especially the buttery soft leathers and silver/turquoise buckles. The Italians know how to work leather beautifully and showed this off in many gorgeous collections of travel bags and business cases. Schneiders Salzberg showed fabulous outerwear pieces and Tiki featured beautiful colorful swim trunks and shirts. Tateossian jewelry looked better than ever, adding just the right contemporary touch to men’s wardrobes. I also took note of some intriguing, unusual hats and some very cool vegan bags, sustainable of course!

“One disappointment: I think it was too hot for most of the Pitti Peacocks to come out and strut their stuff; many were hovering in the shade. On the bright side, yesterday was extremely packed with buyers and editors and it was wonderful to feel the positive energy and upbeat mood.

Also on the bright side, although it rained on the Pitti dinner party (and on the beautiful silk and velvet upholstered furniture), it was quite fun watching everyone run from the rain while I stayed for one more Aperol Spritz.”
