BEN SHERMAN CELEBRATES THE ‘SPIRIT OF THE MOD’ IN FALL CAMPAIGN
British heritage brand Ben Sherman has launched its autumn/winter ‘17 collection with a nod to its heritage celebrating the ‘Spirit of the Mod’. Taking creative inspiration from iconic British music legends from John Lennon to Paul Weller, the collection takes form in the shape of three themes: The Future Mod, The Working Class Hero and The Modern Dandy.
The ‘Future Mod’ takes inspirations from British sport influences and combines with sharp tailoring resulting in a ‘sartorial sport’ look. Sport jackets and jerseys are worn with smart coats and jackets and finished off with semi-formal formal footwear. Key pieces include textured horizontal crew jumpers, the Oxford shirt with a rib cuff and mode stripe tipping and the vintage sport Harrington. The element of dressing items up or down as an essential part of being the Future Mod.
The ‘Working Class Hero’ utilizes vintage military surplus garments over classic tailored suits. Mixing the smart and the casual, this theme looks to the functional and timeless style of the Mod, elevating into the contemporary through modern fabric and colors. Reworking the classic hounds tooth into button down shirts and parkas, patterns take more formal tailored look with warm brushed cotton and wool blends. Rich, deep greens and juxtaposed against softer neutral tones bringing touches of modernity to traditional Mod pieces.
The ‘Modern Dandy’ sees plush fabrics and textures set against a backdrop of reworked gingham. Clean and simple lines in opulent tones of rich Bordeaux and deep reds set against darker charcoals, sea blues and black gives a multi-tonal finish to the winter ginghams. The importance of tailoring also runs through this theme, with tapered trousers featuring a looser fit and clean smaller turn-ups.
