Luxury New York city retailer Bergdorf Goodman has unveiled its annual Holiday windows at its Fifth Avenue flagship. Entitled “Destination Extraordinary,” they depict a dreamlike itinerary of lush locales, unexpected landscapes and verdant gardens. The windows will remain on display through Monday, January 2, 2017.
Among the inspirations for the windows, which have such titles as “The Book Club,” Bird’s Eye View” and “The Winter Garden,” are the paintings of Henri Rousseau and 12th-century Chinese watercolor mountainscapes. The displays each showcase the work of specially commissioned artisans, who have created hand-painted backdrops, highly embellished objects and unique set pieces, along with designer fashions.
“These windows are landscapes of the unexpected. They are delirious remakes of the classic dioramas seen in natural history museums,” says David Hoey, senior director of Visual Presentation.
In addition to the spectacular windows, Bergdorf Goodman has collaborated with New York event designer David Monn to create an interior installation inspired by the architecture of the new main floor of the Fifth Avenue flagship,. Each room offers a unique theme, as if visitors are traveling through different eras.
