Despite recent breaches at big brands such as Facebook, Marriott and Quora, people continue to give their data to online services every day. But they can easily lose track of what they’ve signed up for. This became especially clear earlier this month when Quora suffered a mega breach of personal data affecting up to 100 million users. Through this hack, many people found they were signed up for Quora, even though they did not remember registering at any point. And it turned out that many people had given their details to Quora after taking part in a Facebook quiz a few years ago. Of course, users are more sensible now: the events of this year have shown Facebook’s data practices to be somewhat shady. It’s led some people to delete their Facebook accounts.
