CARNE BOLLENTE TEAMS UP WITH TOM OF FINLAND FOUNDATION ON CAPSULE

by Stephen Garner
Carne Bollente and Tom of Finland collaboration

This season, Carne Bollente has partnered with the Tom Of Finland Foundation to create a gender-fluid capsule collection associating iconic drawings and paintings made by Tom during his career with the brand’s classic embroideries.

Through his art, Tom always defended sex positivity and fought for LGBT+’s rights. He affirmed and glamourized gay sexuality; giving confidence to gay men at a time when many had internalized homophobia and sexual guilt. His imagery turned upside down the clichés that gays were weak. It portrayed gay men as strong and desirable, which was refreshing and empowering. This collaboration reflects the brand’s desire to introduce this artist to new generations but also to highlight the humoristic part of his work less known to the public.

More in detail, the collection features four different styles with black and white illustrations of Tom of Finland combined with a brand new embroidered logo. The first is a t-shirt coming in off-white and washed pink, representing the typical Tom’s mustache man behind a muscled butt. As well as on a model of one tote bag. The second t-shirt represents the spirit of the collection, a Tom of Finland scene integrated with one of Carne Bollente’s witty characters. Rounding out the link is a white or black crew neck sweatshirt, completed with embroidery flanking the chest and one of Tom’s magazine cover in the back.

Carne Bollente is used to major collaborations, such as with the Japanese brand Undercover, for which Carne Bollente made a collection of monsters, Opening Ceremony, the Japanese label Bonjour Records, the Hyères Festival, or lastly the French label Agnès b.
