FILA UNVEILS COLLABORATION WITH MSGM
In continuation of celebrating its 110th anniversary, Fila will unveil a new capsule collection developed with Italian fashion brand MSGM on the courts at Grand Slam’s Roland Garros tournament, kicking off in Paris on May 24th.
MSGM creative director Massimo Giorgetti gave his own interpretation of clothing made for the tennis court, taking cues from Fila’s influence in the sport, to create a tennis-infused capsule collection. The collaboration will be worn by Fila-sponsored players including Karolina Pliskova, Sofia Kenin, Reilly Opelka, and Diego Schwartzman on the court in Paris.
“You Are My Match Point” is the mantra chosen by Giorgetti to sum up the spirit of the collection, which was inspired by a foray into the Fila archives, followed by a decidedly personal elaboration, high on MSGM’s trademarks: color and a certain irreverence. The collection includes halter neck tops, mini skirts, shorts, polo shirts, and t-shirts in MSGM’s iconic tie-dye prints or marble motifs. Lace and ruffles add a romantic accent, while “You Are My Match Point” recurs in the form of print or embroidery.
“Fila, for me, is the tennis court,” said Giorgetti. “I wanted to give a romantic interpretation of it, echoing a cinematic world. My main inspiration for the short skirts came from Lea Pericoli, the Italian tennis champion whose fashion choices on the court turned heads in the 1960s. In visiting the Fila archives, I was surprised by how much they have done over the decades. I just had to remix and update it.”
The collection will be presented with a video that was filmed in Herbeville, France, by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, with a soundtrack by Bernardino Femminielli, loosely suggesting the story of a love triangle on the tennis court. The atmosphere is romantic and sensual, with a palpable French touch as a nod to the tournament’s home in Paris.
The MSGM x Fila is now available on fila.uk, in select Fila retail stores in China and Japan, and on msgm.it. The launch on fila.com will follow this summer.
