NEW YORK – Gen. George W. Casey Jr., Army Chief of Staff, will be among the Fathers of the Year honored by the National Father’s Day Committee at the National Father of the Year Awards luncheon.
The lunch is scheduled for the Metropolitan Ballroom of the Sheraton New York Hotel on June 7. Among the other honorees will be Allen Sirkin, president and chief operating officer of Phillips-Van Heusen Corp.; Harry Smith, host of The Early Show on CBS; and wrestler/entertainer Hulk Hogan. Sirkin also will receive the 2007 Milton Margolis Humanitarian award.
Richard Wurtzburger, chairman of the National Father’s Day Committee and senior vice president of Peerless Clothing, said that other honorees will be named shortly and that the committee is conducting a national search for an “All-Star” Dad.
Gen. Casey is a 37-year Army veteran and the 36th individual to hold the title Army Chief of Staff. He is the son of the late Major Gen. George W. Casey, a veteran of three wars who lost his life in Vietnam in 1970, the same year that his son graduated from Georgetown University. The younger Casey’s decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal and Legion of Merit.
