MADE IN ITALY BRANDS SUCCEED IN AMERICAN MARKETS THIS SEASON

by Stephen Garner

Over 50 brands showcased their fall 2020 wares at the “Made in Italy” section of MRket New York this season. Of these brands, 15 were new, first-time exhibitors. During men’s market week in New York, the Italian Trade Commission hosted a cocktail party at Dear Irving in midtown Manhattan as well as a fashion presentation during the fair on Sunday, January 19th featuring the brands at the bi-annual menswear trade event. Plus, the ITC commissioned a special digital magazine that allows buyers to discover Made in Italy brands in a new way.

And, the ITC didn’t stop there. Between MRket, Premiere Vision, Coterie, and Chicago Collective nearly 200 Italian brands showcased their products to the American audience.

After this impressive showing, the Italian Trade Commission has been able to define its next movements in the American market for the rest of the year. The ITC will aim to increase the participation of Italian brands at leading U.S. trade shows, along with giving adequate training to these companies about the ‘peculiar’ aspects of the American market.

The ITC also aims to bolster the image of Made in Italy products to strengthen the perception of Italy as a land where creative activity and manufacturing combine together like no other place in the world.

From May to September 2020, the ITC will organize events in many different cities, involving multiple sectors and sub-sectors. In May, it will be in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego for events on eyewear. In June, the ITC is going to have an Italian Pavilion at JCK jewelry show and at the Cosmoprof-Las Vegas beauty show.

In July, the Italians will return to MRket/Project – New York with more than 50 companies and in August, at Collective Chicago, the ITC will also have more than 60 companies attending.

In August, expect to see an Italian area for shoes in Las Vegas and an Italian Pavilion in New York at Indie Beauty. And in September, Coterie will round out the year’s activities.
