Rick Owens’ Furry Birkenstocks Are Finally Here

by MR Magazine Staff

Rick Owens is known for making clothes that are often black, usually drape-y, and never not dramatic. He is the king of the fashion goths; a designer who architected a entirely new way of dressing and adheres to it himself. Owens’s creations are also unlike anything else out there, despite the many brands that have tried to knock off the Paris-based designer’s silhouette of mix-and-match proportions and chunky sneakers (long before chunky sneakers were a thing). When it comes to footwear, Owens has a history or making shoes that are more like wearable art—with oversized soles, knee-length heights, and yes, outrageous price-points—than the footwear you’d commonly find from a designer brand. (He once sold a pair of sneakers made in collaboration with Adidas for $900 retail, while his own kicks can fetch well over four figures.) All of these things seem at odds with the vibe-happy, granola-consuming customer of Birkenstock shoes. Then again when it comes to fashion collaborations in 2018, the sky’s the limit. Enter Rick Owens x Birkenstock, which is now a real thing in the world and finally available at Owens’ stores worldwide. Read more at GQ.
