RIP ALAN KNOPP: A PRINCE OF A MAN

by MR Magazine Staff

MR magazine is sad to report the passing of Alan Knopp on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Alan was owner of the Viyella and Chevalier shirt brands; all those who worked with him agree that he was “a prince of a man.” Says DLS founder Fred Derring, representing the thoughts of many, “Kindness is all you got from Alan. He was ‘the man’ in so many ways, a great friend and a real class act. He will be very much missed by all who knew him.”

Alan was the beloved husband of Keren for 48 years, and the devoted father and father-in-law of Jonathan and Deborah, Ryan and Juliana, Katie and Ryan, Mike and Sophie, and Andrew and Allison. He adored his grandchildren: Sophie, Ben, Oliver, Jacob, and Emme. He was a loving brother and brother-in-law to Marvin and Matt. Son of the late Sidney and Mattie Knopp, Alan will be greatly missed by his large extended family and dear friends from around the world.

A true family man and avid volunteer with an extremely generous heart, Alan was someone everyone could count on. He took immense joy in being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always ready with encouragement and support. A successful businessman, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to grow. Alan treasured his friendships and valued the time spent socializing with his many friends from all different chapters of his life.

The family suggests that instead of flowers, consider a donation in his memory to the “Alan Knopp Memorial Fund” c/o Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom, call Rosie at (514) 937-3575 ext. 213, or to Kid Sport Canada, Quebec Chapter, 1 (888) 914-5437.

  2. I lost my breath learning of Alan’s passing. it’s impossible to describe the level of warmth, and caring he showed for all he came in contact with. I cherished my time with him over the years, learning from him, and seeing an ethic I admired from the day I first met him. From that meeting he became a model for me to try and emulate everyday. Alan will be missed, but he will never be forgotten.
    Rest in peace my friend.
