SANDRO TO OPEN FIRST U.S. FLAGSHIP IN NEW YORK CITY

by Stephen Garner

Sandro will open its first U.S. flagship store at 117 Prince Street in New York City on September 13, 2019.

Located in the heart of SoHo, the 2,683 square-foot space lends itself to a warm atmosphere with natural materials and features unique artisanal elements. As visitors enter the shop, they are greeted by artwork by Brazilian artist Julia Brandão. The large textile collage is an experimental patchwork of materials in abstract shapes made with crêpe de chine, taffeta and silk satin. Inside stands a central column wrapped with a ceramic tile design imagined in collaboration with Marianne Smink. These artworks bring a poetic breath to the store and evoke the brand’s values and creative roots of the artistic forces behind Sandro, Evelyne and Ilan Chetrite.

Anchored by the men’s and women’s collections, the layout highlights ready-to-wear and accessories for the ultimate appeal. The store design combines luxurious materials and vintage furnishing from the ‘50s with the pure simplicity of clean lines and graphic accents to create a modern atmosphere. A natural oak chevron hardwood floor brings to mind a Parisian apartment. Low furniture made of stone, stucco, and travertine are peppered throughout the space, punctuated by refined clothing racks. In the women accessories section, an off- white sofa presents clients with a pleasant and relaxing oasis, while looking at the seasonal Flame or Astro sneakers or finding the perfect Pepita or Yza bags to match a masculine wool blazer.

Shoppers will also discover special capsules inside the flagship location. Specifically, Sandro partnered with Atelier Buffile- a family-run ceramic workshop in Southern France- to design a collection of new and unique objects that express its sensitivity. Abstract faces are painted on cups and jugs, in a French Riviera style that naturally finds its place alongside the ready-to-wear and accessories collections. Creating a conversation between textile and ceramics, the pattern has been replicated on cotton jersey t-shirts for men and women that are exclusive to the Prince Street store. New items that reflect the brand’s ethos will continue to be introduced throughout the season.

Since its creation in 1984, Sandro has gone from a single shop in the center of Paris’s Marais district to a global brand with over 640 stores across 39 countries while maintaining its familial roots. Each season, the founders stay true to the brand’s core values:  to offer pieces that embody Parisian Chic at accessible prices.  The fall/winter 2019 collections offer innovative and modern designs while remembering the brand’s DNA. For women, the collection remains truly Parisian at heart, with a few Texan touches added to spice up the allure. The men’s collection builds upon classics blending tradition and modernity with refined elegance. The perfect home for the ready-to-wear and accessories collections of the brand, the new flagship will be a window into the Sandro lifestyle.
