SARTORIA STUDIO HOSTS “BLACK HOLLYWOOD” BOOK SIGNING WITH PHOTOGRAPHER AUGUSTUS

by John Russel Jones

Photographer Carell Augustus has taken on the monumental task of reimagining some of Hollywood’s most iconic scenes, restaging them with contemporary black actors in his book, released late last year, “Black Hollywood: Reimagining Iconic Movie Moments.” Augustus has taken on everything from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Singing in the Rain” to “Mission: Impossible” and “Forest Gump.” His tableaus replace the original actors with modern stars such as Vanessa L. Williams, Dulé Hill, Karma Bown, and Shemar Moore.

To celebrate the photographer’s achievement, Sartoria Studio founder Jack Menashe hosted a book signing last week at the store’s SoHo, New York City location. Notable attendees included actor Edwin Hodge and the Funny Auctioneer and media personality Bill McCuddy.
