The Soccer Scarf Is An Instant Winter Style Fixer
The kitschy, team-logo scarf worn by super-fans at football (a.k.a. soccer) matches has been experiencing something of a style resurgence thanks to envelope-pushing labels like Comme des Garcons, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Vetements who in recent seasons put out their own interpretations. This fall brands like Stella McCartney, Rag & Bone, and Supreme all joined the club, releasing their versions of the spectator staple. And Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman recently riffed on the “hooligan” accessory too, as part of a collaboration with the NBA. While the add-on is obviously a little hyped (we see you, Balenciaga Fall 2017), it also happens to be a great way to give too-serious winter clothes a graphic punch. A black bomber, camel topcoat, and denim jacket all look fantastic with one draped over (or just inside) the coat, as if instantly making you appear more athletic and a little like a college kid ready to skip class and have a good time. Because of that, we say go for it. It’s never too late to pick a team. See more at GQ.
