TODD SNYDER COLLABORATES WITH NBA ON THE COURTSIDE COLLECTION

by John Russel Jones

Tomorrow Todd Snyder will debut a partnership with the NBA, a collection of luxe fan gear for some of the league’s most prolific teams. including The Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and San Francisco Gold State Warriors. The limited-edition Todd Snyder x NBA Courtside Collection features the team’s iconic logos of French Terry sweatshirts and turtlenecks, cashmere sweaters, and leather varsity jackets.

“I wanted to create some fan gear that was sophisticated – styles that you could wear to the game and around town. The Courtside Collection is kind of a dream come true because growing up in Iowa, I played basketball every day,” says Snyder. “When I moved to New York during the Eighties, I fell in love with The Knicks and finally had a hometown pro team. One of my career highlights was winning a design contest, when I worked at The Cap, to design the jerseys for the Indiana Pacers. To see them play in something you designed…that was something else.”

Standout pieces include the Varsity Jacket made in the USA by Golden Bear, the San Francisco-based masters of letterman jackets. The body is constructed from rugged Melton wool, accented by leather sleeves and soft ribbed trim. Design details include raglan sleeves, a quilted satin lining, and a leather tab at the cuffs to prevent them from stretching out. There are four team patches in total: one on the back, one on the sleeve, and two on the chest.

A cashmere crewneck sweater is an archival style, reimagined in two-tone cashmere for an exceptionally soft hand feel and modern, tonal look. The lettering at the chest is cashmere, too, stitched on in satin. Retro-inspired design elements include raglan sleeves for easy movement, a “Dorito” at the neck, and topstitching details throughout. A cashmere cardigan has genuine horn buttons and a bullion logo (a technique where embroidery threads are covered in wire to create a gleaming, textured finish) at the chest.
