TOMMY BAHAMA CELEBRATES NATIONAL RELAXATION DAY WITH NYC BAR RAY’S

by John Russel Jones

Ray’s, a New York City nightlife staple, has created a capsule collection with lifestyle brand Tommy Bahama. The product collaboration includes three embellished Tommy Bahama signature silk camp shirts, three custom-designed Ray’s x Tommy Bahama trucker hats, two kick-off events, and ten days of happy hour at Ray’s Lower East Side, featuring four of the Tommy Bahama spirits in cocktails custom created for the event.

Authentic Hospitality‘s (Ray’s parent company) Carlos Quirarte has had his eye on a partnership with Tommy Bahama since Ray’s inception. “Since its opening, Ray’s has always been a friendly place for our community to unwind and relax in a welcoming, social setting,” he says. “Tommy Bahama shares those sentiments and creates clothing perfect for doing just that – so what better brand for us to partner with?”

Ray’s designer, Jack Berry, adds, “In looking through the Tommy Bahama archive, what resonated most with us were patterns that nodded to casual afternoon hangouts and graphics that highlighted the art of a good cocktail. We chose three iconic silk camp shirt styles and embellished them subtly to give them a Ray’s flair.”

When designing the trucker hats, Jack and Carlos looked to “that hat you grab knowing you’re going to be out on the water all day. The teal and coral tones were inspired by the colors of Miami architecture and Floridian landscapes that have long been central to the Tommy Bahama brand. The navy hat color not so subtly pays homage to a classic captain’s hat. The full-stone version captures every fisherman’s staple.”

The shirts will make their debut on Thursday, August 15th, with a kick-off party celebrating National Relaxation Day at Ray’s Lower East Side from 7 – 11pm. Ray’s tattoo artist Sophie Bee will be offering up Tommy Bahama inspired tiny tattoos (a sailfish to connect to your Ray’s tattoo anyone?) and Authentic Hospitality bartender Tim Sweeney will be behind the bar slinging his four Tommy Bahama cocktail creations.

A hat drop happy hour at the Tommy Bahama retail store on Fifth Avenue will follow on Wednesday, August 21. Tommy Bahama cocktails will be available for purchase at Ray’s Lower East Side from Friday, August 16, to Sunday, August 25. Merchandise will be available for purchase at the events as well as at raysbarnyc.com.
