Tommy Hilfiger Publishing a Memoir
Designer Tommy Hilfiger, 63, is working on a memoir that will be published this fall by Random House’s Ballantine Books imprint. The book’s release will be timed with the Tommy Hilfiger brand’s 30th anniversary.
“Reflecting on my experiences in the fashion industry over the last 30-plus years has been a wild ride, filled with milestone moments that have defined both my career and personal life,” said Hilfiger. “I always believe the best is yet to come, but so far: it’s been the adventure of a lifetime.”
The memoir will span from his childhood in Elmira, NY through his start in the fashion business to the present. Hilfiger is one of nine children. He started selling jeans in high school in 1969, opening a small chain of shops that were successful until 1977 when they went out of business. He started his own line in 1985. He signed an exclusive deal with Macy’s in 2007 and his brand was acquired by PVH in 2010 for $3 billion.
