YMA FSF AWARDS FIRST DOUG EWERT SCHOLARSHIP
Men’s Wearhouse, in partnership with the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund, presented USC student Juno Zhu with the first ever Doug Ewert Men’s Wearhouse scholarship today at a ceremony at the offices of Boston Traders in New York. The annual grant goes to a current scholar from a West Coast school who has been a top participant in the program. The $5,000 Doug Ewert Scholarship is in addition to the $5,000 scholarship she received through the YMA FSF for a total of $10,000. Zhu is a visitor from China studying at the University of Southern California. She has been working as an intern at Men’s Wearhouse and intends to stay on and pursue her US citizenship after graduation. She also won a $5000 scholarship in 2014 and was a 2015 finalist for the Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship, earning $10,000 for that honor. So, in total she has received $25,000 towards her education from the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund.
The new annual award was made possible by the record-breaking fundraising at the January 2015 Fashion Scholarship Fund dinner, at which Ewert, the CEO of Men’s Wearhouse, was an honoree, driven in large part by the efforts of the Mens Wearhouse team. At the presentation, Fashion Scholarship Fund co-chairman Paul Rosengard and Ewert gave particular credit to team members Jarrod Nadel, Scott Norris and Mary Beth Blake for raising the money that helped that event to be the largest in history, generating $3.7 million to fund scholarships for top students with a desire to work in the fashion industry.
Another, quieter presentation at the event was from Zhu to YMA co-chairman Debra Malbin, her mentor in the program. She presented Malbin with a hand drawn picture created by her father, who is an artist in China, to thank her for the help she received as a foreign student trying to make her way in the United States.
On Thursday YMA President Peter Sachse will host a “Breakfast with the Boss” meeting for this year’s NY interns at which the 2016 honorees Ron Wurtzburger of Peerless Clothing and Tim Baxter of Macy’s will speak to the group.
