DARIEN SPORT SHOP IN ACTION

by Karen Alberg Grossman

It was a buzzing Saturday at Darien Sport Shop  two weeks before Father’s Day, featuring not just a Peter Millar trunk show (light bites, cocktails, gifts with purchase) but also exceptional presentations from so many hot menswear brands.

Image, above: Darien Sport’s Greg Reilly and 34 Heritage’s Richard Binder had a busy day on the selling floor.

Richard Binder from 34 Heritage was there selling lots of pants, most notably sateen twills in soft, light shades ($185 retail, love the pale rose!), a golf travel pant with quarter top pockets ($195), tropical denims ($195) and slub tees in soft shades ($75 retail).

According to Darien Sport exec Greg Reilly, “Best sellers on Saturday from Millar were their performance jersey polos, their sateen five-pocket pants, their Salem golf shorts and Glide V3 sneakers. Faherty did well with their movement button-down shirts and Tradewind henleys.  And from Greyson: lots of Montauk shorts.”

“Our men’s business continues to be strong,” Greg continues, “maintaining our pace from 2022 with better inventory control. Tailored clothing continues to grow with return to work and more events; also strong are woven shirts and footwear. Best performing brands this season are Peter Millar, Faherty, Jack Victor, and Rodd & Gunn. 34 Heritage, Blue Industry and Sid Mashburn have been great for us, as have Martin Dingman and Magnanni shoes, belts and wallets.”

A truly amazing store with a friendly family vibe, terrific salespeople, an exceptional gift department, a broad range of offerings in men’s women’s, kids, accessories and of course sporting goods, Darien Sport is clearly doing lots of things right!

(Editor’s note: With Father’s Day ahead, I could not resist buying a beautiful Vineyard Vines pink and blue soft linen shirt for my husband.)

  1. Richard Bender with 34 Heritage is the best!
If everyone took care of their customers with the genuine care that he gives there would never be a problem. He is a true friend and a treasure for our industry!
