ECCO UNVEILS A NEW YORK FLAGSHIP STORE IN SOHO

by John Russel Jones

As Ecco, the global footwear and lifestyle brand, celebrates its 60th anniversary, it has opened a flagship store in SoHo NYC while it also relaunches 16 global flagship stores. Designed to welcome and inspire, the spaces resonate with ECCO’s democratic, inclusive vision of the Modern Family, the concept of which is at the heart of this season’s brand campaign. The 3,250 sq.-ft NYC store is located at 110 Grand Street at the corner of Broadway and Grand and features the company’s full range of footwear and accessories and some exclusive limited-edition products available only at the SoHo location.

A bold evolution of the ECCO identity, the new stores pay homage to the values at the core of the brand – innovation, ambitious design, sustainability, community – translating them into physical spaces. So, tiling calls to mind Jutland brick, a nod to ECCO’s Danish heritage and the buildings of its headquarters. A key material in the brand’s manufacturing processes, aluminum is a recurring motif within the stores. Coinciding with ECCO’s sustainable and ethical ambitions, use of plastic is minimized with durable leather innovations used for the interiors; for example, terrazzo-style upcycled leather tiling and counters upholstered with tactile memory- foam leather.

The Alpha stores are designed in partnership with Swedish studio Stamuli, a collective of creatives, architects and technical experts who specialize in interior design for the fashion and retail sector. The relaunched stores have a coherent visual language that speaks to the brand pillars, while simultaneously employing individual flourishes that make each boutique a destination and experience in their own right.

The first stores open to coincide with the release of the debut NRL Collection – a 15-piece capsule from new creative partner Natacha Ramsay-Levi – and the Modern Family campaign, which celebrates togetherness and community.
