GUEST EDITORIAL: SPRING 2024 TRENDS AND THOUGHTS

by Fred Derring

As we waltzed through the NYC market, we found many amazing fabric stories. These are fabrics we’re all familiar with but are now being made into sportswear, suits, sport coats and outerwear. Key Spring 2024 fabrics include seersucker, terrycloth, stretch jersey (in many different fibers), and linen (in “wow” colors and many different styles). We’ve had a strong response to models that have been around but feel fresh: Johnny collar, pop-over, banded collar, and overshirts. (We especially love a knit jersey Nehru collar sportcoat from Digel [Shown above].)

Capturing all the trends at Brunello Cucinelli.

Garment dying and garment washing give a nice edge and kinder hand to garments in many fresh colors. Don’t overlook DB sportscoats and modern-fit pleated trousers!

A final note: After shopping the many shows in NY from July 17 to July 27, it seems there are just too many shows. It would be so much easier to have one big event. 1. Fred, Thank you for discussing the fragmented groups of vendors all over the city. This is what makes it difficult for buyers to shop all the innovation that is out there. If Society, NY Best Show, Man, Project and whatever else would ban together in a spirit of cooperation it would make all of our lives easier.
    Ps thanks for liking Digel.
