The Kanye West-Designed Varsity Jacket That Never Was
Kanye West unveiled his Yeezy Season 5 collection yesterday in New York City, adding a new lineup of menswear that builds on his slouchy, layer-heavy, garment-dyed aesthetic. But as more seasoned Kanye West scholars know, Yeezy Season is far from Kanye’s first attempt to break into the fashion world. In 2011 and 2012 there was Kanye West, a collection of high-end womenswear that never saw the light of day, only the lights of two Paris runway shows. Go back even further and you’ll find Pastelle (sometimes called Pastelle Museum), a streetwear-leaning brand West announced in 2008, but which ended up being scrapped before ever reaching store shelves. (The closest the project ever got to being sold was a vague website that no longer exists.)
