NEW AT PEERLESS: HART SCHAFFNER MARX AND VINCE

by Karen Alberg Grossman

Modernizing a brand founded in 1887 by two immigrant brothers—Harry and Max Hart—has got to be a tough job, but who better for the task than Raffi Ajemian, President of Global Sourcing and now President of Hart Schaffner Marx at Peerless (above, with Peerless president Dan Orwig).
The new Hart Schaffner Marx collection for fall 2024 manages to blend tradition with contemporary modeling and details. Soft DB’s, patch pockets, some peak lapels, new luxury materials (wool/silk/linen blends, knit jerseys—even a 100 percent merino knitted suit, $495 retail for the jacket, $195 for the pants), single-pleat trousers with side tabs, wool flannel five-pocket pants with stretch, the ultimate luxury blazer, and much more.
Raffi, who’s been with Peerless for 20 years and was himself “born into the business,” confirms that the key item for fall is the soft tailored sport coat designed to be worn with sportswear. It’s a stand-out collection well suited for both traditional HSM aficionados and a new generation of emerging clothing fans.

Also new at Peerless, Jim Petrino presented a modern-fit Vince collection—very soft, understated, unstructured, in luxury fabrics and true to the contemporary Vince brand. In 100 percent cashmere knit jersey, suits retail from $898-$1098, sportswear-related jackets from $798-998. Looking ahead, expect more tailored cardigans, soft DBs and patch pockets. Comfort and Cool—the essence of modern casual tailoring.
