by Michael Macko

MR is pleased to present our recap of Milan Men’s Fashion Week for Autumn/Winter 2024/25. We could not cover all of the 60+ collections showing, so we selected the designers and brands we thought most relevant to you, our readers, if there is someone we missed who you would like to see, please leave a comment below and we will try to include them.

Canali

Canali entitled its latest collection “Into Nature,” which was a prevalent theme on the runways and presentations of Milan Fashion Week for AW/24. One has to remember that these collections were imagined and designed well over a year ago as we were emerging from the quarantine of the pandemic and it makes sense that brands wanted to take us all into the woods, mountains, and seas after being cooped up for two years. “Into Nature” brings to life a vision the imagining of a walk in the great outdoors, into a forest, shrouded in a winter mist that makes its way into the F/W 2024 collection, rich in textured fabrics like bouclé, alpaca, as well as wool and cashmere.

There is a new “outdoor tailoring” with relaxed suits featuring corduroy, Prince of Wales, and plaid fabrications, with the plaid pattern and its intersecting lines evoking the rhythmic patterns in nature, comes in shades of dark gray and is a constant throughout the collection: it becomes fabric and motif on outerwear, suits, knitwear, and accessories.

The color of this natural season of course is a particular shade of green, the color of a verdant forest seen through the haze of a winter day, inspired by Canali’s land of origin and Stendhal’s literary work “Journal du voyage dans la Brianza” in which the French writer travels to the beautiful region of northwest Lombardy, at the foot of the Alps, between Milan and Lake Como.

For accessories this season Canali eschewed showing the usual totes and duffels and instead showed the models with leather coin purses, AirPod cases, wallets, and card holders all worn around the neck on chic straps for convenience and ease whether you are in the woods or on the street.

Canali flexes its tailoring muscles with the “Double Wardrobe”, using unlined, seamless wool and cashmere, hand-crafted into outerwear, shirt-jackets, pants as well as shoes and accessories. There is a taupe-colored duffle jacket, where even the loops and toggles are covered in the luxe double fabric, a demonstration of the brand’s unparalleled mastery, research, and innovation.
