SATURDAYS NYC EXPLORES NEW YORK’S DIVERSE NEIGHBORHOODS FOR FALL

by Stephen Garner

Saturdays NYCSaturdays NYC has released its fall 2018 lookbook in anticipation of the collection drop next month. Inspired by the density of New York City and the diversity of its neighborhoods, this season pays homage to the diaspora communities that are the cornerstone of NYC’s character and finds inspiration in the pragmatic sense of style found within them. A color palette of light plum, seafoam green, and cobalt blue draws heavily from the streets, signs, and marketplaces of these historic neighborhoods.

This season features several new outerwear styles including the first-ever full down jacket for the brand: the Silas Puffer. It’s a mid-length parka with an oversized mock-neck collar, hidden hood, and sustainable down filling from Allied Down. The new Calvin Flight Jacket is designed with a warm quilted lining and a plush velvet fabric.

Saturdays NYCLightweight styles like the Ty Double Breasted Parka and Varick Pants are finished with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating. While they may wear like simple cotton pieces, they’ll also protect from spontaneous Fall showers. New heavy corduroy pieces are also prominent throughout the collection, including the Magnus Heavy cord shirt, Field Heavy cord pant and the Russel cord hat. Their wider wales and thick ribbing provides warmth during the winter months.

Inspired by the flower shops, furniture stores and gift shops that line the streets of NYC’s Chinatown, the fall ’18 Orchid and Lacquer Butterfly prints adorn styles such as the Marco shirt, Canty shirt and Timothy board shorts. Reminiscent of the track suit styles seen in the city’s Little Russia neighborhood, this season’s sweats feature a boucle fabric outer with a soft, piled surface and a cotton grosgrain taping that runs down the sleeves and legs.

The collection will launch in three drops this season with the first one available online and in-store at all U.S. Saturdays NYC locations on August 2 and worldwide on August 3.
